Planning ahead

Making rail more user-friendly promotes modal shift - and providing passengers with on-demand information helps achieve this. The UK's web-based Online Journey Planner is an example, allowing users to plan journeys and providing real-time information. Journey planner was developed for National Rail Enquiries by Transeo, an alliance between Thales and leading freight operator EWS.

"We're getting people out of cars, getting people off other modes of transport like domestic air fl ights and showing them, through our services, that rail is a cost-effective and time-effective way to travel around the UK."
